As not forget it and as not repeat it anymore!
As not forget for such Tragedy
In 1988 31st July, at Butterworth of Penang State, Peninsular Malaysia.

〇Passenger platform of Jetty was badly collapsed and floor was smashed onto many cars and motorcyclist who are waiting at ground floor.
Rescue basement was settled at Polo Ground near Jetty and Hotel where I had stayed.

〇Around 11o’clock, I took out my paper and brush, then turned off all the room right since as to see outside more clearly. From the window, I started to draw outside view under no light.

In center, rescue helicopter is touching down.
Though result of the painting was poor, but also it was a master piece for very deep memory.
Relation of the jetty and Polo ground is shown in picture as below.

lower side is Jetty, topside is the ground. And left side is Penang island. This Butterworth bird’s-eye view was made on next year of the incident.

〇It was caused by a reason of two major festivals organized in the same day and evening, one is held at Penang island and another is Butterworth side.
Afternoon on the day, when thousand people moved to/from each side, the tragedy was happened.
Ferry with many passengers from Penang (PG) was berthed at Butterworth (BW) jetty where also many people are waiting ferry for crossing the channel to PG. Under such circumstances, people forwards to PG and dropping people from PG was badly smashed in the waiting area located 2nd floor of Jetty.
Unfortunately the floor couldn’t stand weight of people, then was fall down to the ground in a moment.
It is said that many victims were died on the spot.
I encountered this incident at the night when on the way back to Butterworth from outside for business trip.
Time was already 10 o’clock but still very crowded, a lot of people stayed outside and busy.
Also find big helicopter of Malaysian air force was in the sky with big sounds. Taxi driver told me that “Jettey bridge was collapsed and might be many people died!”
After reached my hotel room where located at6th floor, then opened curtain, looked down Polo ground. I saw the helicopter taken off from the ground and fried away across the edge of my room.
I found another helicopter was just touched down at the ground. They are busy to carry the people to the hospital near by.

Then determined to draw this terrible scene!
